Arctis – Powering 100% Electric Delivery
Addvolt, a leader in the field of clean energy for transportation, together with its German distribution partner STS, delivered 9 Mitsubishi Fuso Canter with all-electric refrigeration, powered by Addvolt. This combination allows Arctis, a well-known company for frozen bakery products, to become the first German company to equip a substantial part of its fleet with 100% electric refrigeration and to perform last-mile deliveries across Stuttgart’s shopping centers without noise and emissions.
The Problem
Arctis takes on great social responsibility and achieves high energy efficiency through photovoltaic panels installed on its facilities. Moreover, Arctis decided to rethink its urban distribution, which typically involves underground deliveries to shopping malls, and to adapt its business strategy to EU concerns in order to respond to climate change and improve urban air quality and consequently people’s lives.
Underground, the operation of diesel-powered refrigeration systems is prohibited as it causes emissions and noise pollution. As a result, the integrity of the cold chain is compromised. To overcome this issue, Arctis chose to work with Addvolt and STS, who provide fully-electric delivery due to their competency in developing electric and sustainable refrigerated transport solutions.
The Innovation
Switching to Mitsubishi Fuso Canter with refrigeration powered by Addvolt’s non-invasive and ultra-silent systems enables Arctis to perform night deliveries, meeting the latest noise regulations while improving air quality in city centers.
Addvolt’s lightweight and ultra-powerful system uses long-lasting batteries with an operating time of up to 8 hours. Chargeable in less than 2 hours by connecting the truck to the power grid or by energy recovery through Addvolt’s braking system, this solution is cost-effective and low maintenance due to the use of electric and renewable energy. The service “My Addvolt” allows fleet managers to access real-time temperature control in each compartment and for each product, as well as automatic reports on the carbon footprint. This data can be displayed on demand, ensuring the highest quality of goods for the end consumer.
The Results
Monthly, more than 1000 kWh per vehicle are being transacted. This is equivalent to the energy used to supply three German households for one year. It is all the more important that this energy comes from renewable sources, such as braking or the sun. Besides, the Addvolt system avoids more than 16 tons of CO2 emissions per month, thus reducing the carbon footprint of Arctis and meeting the requirements of the European Green Deal to achieve climate neutrality in 2050.
