Efficiency Up, Emissions Down: QSL Polska Optimizes Fleet with Sustainable Innovation
QSL Polska leads with electric-powered technology to reduce emissions and noise, while increasing efficiency in food transport.
Poland – June 2024 — Quick Service Logistics Polska (QSL Polska), part of the Meyer QSL Group, is taking a bold step toward smarter and more sustainable logistics. In partnership with Addvolt, ANG Vehicle Technologies, and Petit Forestier Polska, the company has integrated a first-of-its-kind electric sustainable refrigeration unit into its Polish truck fleet. The results speak for themselves: zero-emission cooling, significantly increased operational efficiency, and quieter deliveries—especially important in polish urban centers and overnight distribution.
1. The Technology Behind the Transformation
At the heart of this innovative technology is a hybrid electric system developed by Addvolt and installed by ANG Vehicle Technologies. The system features:
Addvolt Powerpack: A battery-powered system designed for refrigerated vans, trucks, trailers, and containers, enabling them to run their cooling systems without relying on diesel engines, making fleets cleaner, quieter, and more cost-efficient in goods transportation.
Addvolt Generator: A kinetic generator that recharges the powerpack while the vehicle is in motion. Energy is recovered during driving, braking and deceleration.
Smart Telematics: Real-time GPS and GSM-based monitoring for energy use, battery status, fuel savings, and CO₂ reduction.
When stationary, the truck’s cooling system draws from battery power. While driving, the generator recovers energy from the axle, keeping the batteries charged and extending the system’s autonomy. The setup allows plug-in charging at standard 400V sockets when needed—but often, it’s not even necessary, according to QSL Polska.
2. Real Results in the Real World
In its first six months of operation, the electric-powered truck has delivered a substantial environmental and economic impact:
- ~600 liters of diesel saved monthly;
- ~20 tons of CO₂ emissions avoided per year;
- ~50% reduction in cooling system operating costs;
- Drastically reduced noise levels (<60dB), ideal for deliveries in urban areas and during night shifts.
These results make QSL Polska the first operator in Poland to deploy this hybrid electric cooling system in a refrigerated truck, reinforcing the company’s position at the forefront of sustainable logistics.
“We are proud to be introducing this type of innovation to our fleet of refrigerated trucks. The truck will be monitored, and its parameters analyzed and optimized. Based on the results, a decision will be made after six months to determine the extent to which the solution will be implemented on a full scale in the remaining trucks used by our drivers. This is a step towards electromobility that meets today's challenges, both environmental and business."
— Rafał Strzałkowski, Operations Director at Quick Service Logistics Polska
3. A Strategy Aligned with Environmental Responsibility
QSL Polska’s decision to modernize its fleet is part of the broader QSER (QSL Environmental Responsibility) strategy shared across the Meyer QSL Group. From renewable energy in warehouses to route optimization and sustainable transport technologies, QSL is committed to reducing its environmental impact without compromising on service quality.
“Our priority is the safety and freshness of the products we deliver. But optimizing costs and boosting operational efficiency is just as crucial. This electric refrigeration solution helps us move closer to our goals of efficient and environmentally responsible logistics."
— Rafał Strzałkowski, Operations Director at Quick Service Logistics Polska
4. Leading by Example in the Polish Market
This vehicle represents more than just new tech—it’s a statement. QSL Polska, in partnership with Addvolt, ANG Vehicle Technologies, and Petit Forestier, is showing how innovation can solve real-world challenges in food logistics. With an average reduction of 20 tons of CO₂ per truck annually, this project has the potential to scale up across QSL’s European fleet, reinforcing the group’s long-term sustainability vision.
“This partnership with QSL Polska marks a significant milestone in Poland’s transition to cleaner logistics. At Addvolt, we believe that sustainable energy solutions must be practical and measurable. With this example, we’ve not only reduced emissions and noise but also proved that electric refrigeration technology can seamlessly integrate into daily operations, even in demanding urban delivery scenarios. We’re proud to support QSL’s forward-thinking approach and to contribute to a more efficient, quieter, and environmentally responsible supply chain in Poland.”
